Nvidia reveals the ‘world’s most powerful chip’ for AI
Nvidia introduced its latest Blackwell GPUs with significantly enhanced energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness for AI tasks. The new GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchip boasts remarkable performance improvements, offering up to 30 times faster processing for LLM inference workloads compared to previous models.
At the Nvidia GTC 2024 keynote, CEO Jensen Huang presented Blackwell as a game-changer in computing, emphasizing its transformative potential. Although initially focused on AI applications, the company hinted at forthcoming gaming products.
Nvidia highlighted Blackwell's advancements, stating it enables real-time generative AI on trillion-parameter large language models with 25 times less energy consumption and cost compared to its predecessor, Hopper. This technology is scalable to AI models with up to 10 trillion parameters, promising widespread adoption across organizations.

Apple in talks to bring Google's Gemini AI to iPhone
Apple is in "active negotiations" with Google to bring its Gemini generative AI technology to the iPhone, Bloomberg reports, and has also considered integrating OpenAI's ChatGPT.
CEO Tim Cook has confirmed Apple's dedication to AI development, with plans to unveil new features later this year. Bloomberg's report suggests a blend of first- and third-party AI models could power Apple's products, with on-device AI potentially arriving with iOS 18 and cloud-based features through partnerships like with Google.
If negotiations with Google are successful, Apple would emulate Samsung's recent move in leveraging Google's AI for Galaxy smartphones. However, specifics regarding the implementation remain undecided. Apple already collaborates with Google, notably with Google Search as the default on its devices, although such agreements face scrutiny from regulators over concerns of market dominance.

SpaceX is building US spy satellites in $1.8B contract
SpaceX has secured a contract from the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) to construct a network of low-orbiting spy satellites, according to a report by Reuters.
Dubbed Starshield, this initiative aims to deploy hundreds of satellites capable of operating collectively to track ground targets for US intelligence. The project, initially hinted at by The Wall Street Journal in 2021, is estimated at $1.8 billion. Starshield's design integrates large imaging satellites and relay satellites to ensure continuous global surveillance.
With this network, intelligence officials anticipate unparalleled visibility, making concealment difficult. While neither SpaceX nor the NRO officially acknowledged the collaboration, an NRO spokesperson emphasized the agency's commitment to developing an exceptional space-based intelligence system.
Bit Digital reports revenues up nearly 40%
Bit Digital, a Nasdaq-listed Bitcoin mining firm, reported earnings of $44.9 million for 2023, marking a 39% increase from the previous year.
The company mined 1,507.3 BTC, a 21% rise, valued at approximately $97 million. The growth was attributed to a higher active hash rate, although it was partially offset by increased network difficulty. As of Dec. 31, 2023, Bit Digital's total assets stood at $189.3 million, with shareholders' equity at $152.7 million.
In addition to mining, the company expanded its portfolio into artificial intelligence technology, offering digital infrastructure services, including GPU rental. This venture generated $4 million in earnings by February 2024. Bit Digital aims to further expand into cost-effective, carbon-free energy sources for its mining operations.
